Whitehorse - Whitehorse - Email this album review Printable version In the past I have enjoyed both Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland and I was intrigued as to what they would sound like as a couple (they are married) ? would this be a case of 1+1=3 or will it equal one and one? In the end the result is a bit of both. You can definitely hear their individual sounds here but Doucet has added punch and raunch to McClelland?s sound and she has created a counterbalance toi his more hokey side. All in all this is a well fashioned set and a worthy half an hour of anyone?s ears.

?Eulogy For Whiskers pt1? is a dark and haunting way to start the album and it shows a surprisingly able and subtle side of Doucet but it leads into ?Killing Time Is Murder? which hits you like hammer and has great harmonies along with Doucet?s deranged guitar solo.
?Emerald Isle? has a bit more of McLelland about the sound ? a bit more folk and a little less rock ? and the version of ?I?m On Fire? is simply superb as a duet between the two of them but ?Night Owls? really shows them as a musical couple and it has everything to do with them finding a sound that has both of them in it ? it is a great ?married couples song? to boot.

Considering the number of awards these two have won between them this is a low key affair but I have a sneaking suspicion that, come the end of the year, it will be up there as EP of the year: and it is only January!
